client upload images to photo gallery created in dreamweaver

I've looked at mentogallery but it looks like a complete website and I've got a site desinged in DW but want a client upload feature. Do you know if Adobe Contribute will allow photos to be uploaded to the DW photo gallery? Or is there a better solution?

Hi painter_43,

The problem with using Contribute is that while the user can upload photos, they still need to know how to make thumbnails and put the thumbnails up and link everything.  It's not a simple solution.

You should look at Gallery again http://gallery.menalto.com/ or ZenPhoto: http://www.zenphoto.org/

While either of them can function as a complete stand-alone site, you can also install them in a sub folder of an existing site and use them that way.  FWIW, ZenPhoto is a bit slicker than Gallery.

Hi jason1178,

Thanks for the quick reply. It's like trying to find the path in the forest at night with a flashlight. I'm an old hand designer but fairly new to the web. My code understanding is quite limited to html, css. I've tried to do the xml photo gallery on Adobe's dev site but missed something somehow. It worked in Safari but not in Firefox or Opera and I don't have a IE test as I'm on a Mac. So the DW photo gallery seemed to be my best solution except for the client upload issue. I'll take a look at the zenphoto.

Thanks again, I'll be back.

The XML based one is a bit tricky if this is your first exposure to AJAX and/or Spry.  The internal DW gallery just scans a folder for images and creates thumbnails and navigation but it does not account for adding anything (you would have to delete the existing stuff and rerun the command).

I looked at the zenphoto and it looks good. I'm posting on our local freelance board for help with the set up of PHP,MySQL.and integration into my Dreamweaver site. Any suggestions for freelance help? Or is that not permitted on this site.

You cannot solicit for members to help you for pay.  If you wanted to try it yourself, you could ask questions about how to do it but if you are not experienced with this, then get a consultant to help you.

I assume you are hosting with an ISP?  If so, they should be able to set up the PHP and MySQL for you, or have already done so.
