How to modify META information in AVI or other VIDEO file

I have dozens of AVI files of DVDs that I copied (I still own the original DVDs and do not share the AVI files). There seems to be some meta information regarding the title, which is different from the file name. Windows Media Player has been picking up this meta information and displaying it as the name of the video, which makes it confusing to determine the actual name of the movie (I often rename the files to better reflect the content - but this is not picked up by windows media player).

I am using Windows XP. When I right click and choose properties, I can see a title for the movie, but I do not have the option to edit it. I do have this option with MP3 files.

How can I change this information in the AVI file itself, so that any computer in my home using Windows Media Player will see the proper title of the movie?
