I am going to upgrade cognos version from 6.5 to 7, but up to now I just know that ver. 7 does not support pyh file, and I need to use *.mdl file for file convertion (to pyi)

Does anyone have any idea about the difference of cognos 6.5 and 7?
for example, does ver. 7 support *.ppr and *.mdc (ver. 6.5),  command "trnsfrmr", ...
and any thing I need to concern with during the sys upgrade?

Many thanks

Cognos 7 does still use .PPR (powerplay reporter) and .mdc (multidimensional cube) files, but the contents of these files will need to be upgraded.  You can also still use the trnsfrmr command line to create cube files and build cubes.

If you download the PP7 files, you'll want to read the "Solution Installation Guide", which has a chapter on upgrading.

If I remember correctly the big gotcha here is that you need to upgrade your 6.5 environment to 7.1 first, before upgrading to the latest 7.4 (or 7.3).  You can't go directly from 6.5 to 7.4.

Thanks~
I have already read through the doc attached in the installation disc before but seems there is not much information provided
so I would open an question here to find if there is any expect experience in this before.

what u mean by "You can't go directly from 6.5 to 7.4"
As I have tried to convert the pyh to pyi and run the trnfrmr for the pyi (convert from pyh) and seems ok...

(sorry for keep asking questions)
