Hello Experts.

I installed MS Analysis Services 2005, and I'd like to import an existing cube and/or database from another server where MS Analysis Services 2000 is installed. I already migrated the facts database from the old server to the new one.

The connection from the new server to the old one is not easy, as they are on two different segments of the network, with different security levels on the firewall. Moreover, they are not part of the same domain. I keep receiving error messages about checking if the server exists...

Is there a way I can export/detach the database, then import it on the new server.

Otherwise, what should I chek to make sure I can see the old server from the new one (user management on the old one, ports to open on the firewall, etc).

Any advice will be very welcome.

Vincent.

You can run the migration wizard and it will "probably" work, but you will end up with a lot of garbage.  Because of the structural differences in AS2005, you really need to re-design your cubes.

Take the time to put your fact tables into a single cube where appropriate, and make sure you spend time setting up attribute relationships correctly or you will suffer performance problems.
