Import mailbox from 2000 exchange to 2003 exchange

I just created a 2003 exchange server and now I want to import mailboxes. What's the easiest way to do this?

How many mailboxes do you have? You can use the Exmerge tool to extract from your current 2000 and then move the data into the 2003 or you can use Outlook to export to a .pst and open the new mailbox in 2003 using Outlook and import the .pst into the 2003 mailbox. There are some third party tools like Kroll Ontrack that will work, but there is a cost. Ontrack is good for disaster recovery.

If the mailboxes are on the old Exchange Server which is installed to the same Exchange organization, you just need to use the move mailbox wizard at the Exchange Server level to move the mailboxes to the new server. There's no need to use exmerge to create PST files - the only time you'd do that is if the servers cannot speak to each other.
