Custom SMS tones/sounds

I have an unlocked iPhone and I was wondering if it is possible to change the message tone to a custom one e.g. a music clip? Version is 1.1.4. Any help greatly appreciated.

IF you have jailbroken your phone, you can modify the SMS message tone.  See below:

Sorry about the delay in replying. The iphone is my wifes and she been away from home on and off for the last week or so and will be for the next week or so. As soon as I can get her phone I'll check out your suggestions.
