Why are the edges of my fonts on smooth?

The fonts that I am trying to use is called Univers.
As you can see from the image the edges of the font looks very blocky and not smooth at all.

This problem has never happen before so I have no idea what is wrong.

I have the font book on the Mac but I do not know how to use it. Matter of fact on the Mac I have the Font Book and also under the folder called library there is another folder called FONTS.

I have no idea so I just dropped the Univers fonts in any folder that has the word FONTS in it.

Alright...I followed the instruction and in the font book the two new fonts that appeared on it are 'Univers and Univer-1"

The bad thing is that it says there are nothing in it.
