Windows Server Update Services encountered an error.

WhenI try to approve some updates I receive the following:
Windows Server Update Services encountered an error.
Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the
operation or the server is not responding.
[Show Details] [Close]"
When I press "Show Details", the following information is given:

System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout expired.  The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.

Does anyone have some fixes?   I might add the approval time for a Single approval is very long.
