error 630 optimization file flushing error

What does this error mean?

I have a client that is working off of a hard drive using Caseware. At some point during the day, he loses his connection to the external hard drive and receives the "error 630 optimization file flushing error" notice.

It sounds like information is being cached in memory, something triggers that information to be committed (or flushed) to the hard drive, and this is not happening.

This is an "External Hard Drive" being written to?  If it uses a USB connection then the developers have probably taken the decision to Cache updates to the hard drive in order for the user to work more quickly - however, if the device is yanked out before the info is committed then the info is lost (hence the advice to use the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Systray).  This cacheing can be disabled at a loss of performance, but improving reliability.  See this article as an example:-

Thank you for your input. The error was actually a result of a lose connection to the source (external hard drive). I also seen this happen when someone was working off the server and there was a 'hiccup' in performance or availability. Thanks for getting the mental motors going. I simple close and re-opening of the software fixed the issue.
