Encrypt XML datatype in Sql Server 2005?

We have typically stored xml data in a BLOB format, but we have data in it that needs to be encrypted.  Can the xml datatype in SQL Server 2005 be encrypted?  Thanks!

No, SQL 2005 in built encryption supports a maximum of 8000 characters
