Outlook 2003 Startup Error (MAPI)

I'm receiving an error message when starting up outlook:

'Outlook Profile cannot be updated if a MAPI application is running'

i can still send/receive mail but the error is bugging me. any ideas on how to resolve this?

Have you installed any addons to outlook? Is ActiveSync or something the like running on your system?
Have you made sure that after you've quit outlook, there's no more outlook.exe in the process list of taskmanager?

I think the only thing that is running is blackberry desktop manager.

when i quit, there is no outlook.exe in the task manager.

Oh, there's even the name of the application that causes the problem: SearchProtocolHost.exe

Do you have Windows Desktop Search or something like this activated?
Try to execute the following command in Start -> Run -> cmd

net stop wsearch

Afterwards, try again.
