Hi there

Please can someone help me understand the possible cause of the notification below. I would really appreciate your help please.

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

      Subject:      FW: test
      Sent:      24/06/2008 12:32

The following recipient(s) cannot be reached:

      xxxx@xxxxxxxx.com on 24/06/2008 12:32
A configuration error in the e-mail system caused the message to bounce between two servers or to be forwarded between two recipients.  Contact your administrator.

Many thanks

This NDR clearly indicates the fact that when a mail was sent to this domain , the mail could not be delivered due to a hop count issues.

When a mail traverses through a certain number of hops before hitting the destination domain, these hops are then checked and if it has travelled more than the number of recommended hops which is based on a particular value set on the receiving gateway at that point it rejects the message with this NDR

In most cases to fix this issue either you can reduce some hops at your end ot you can ask the destination domain admins to change this setting and then they will be able to receive emails  from your domain if that the current issue if people are unable to receive emails from your domain.

Thank you for your help.

Please can you tell me how to increase the max hop count as all articles I have looked at tell me to go to IIS mamager v6.0 and right click on the virtual server but all emails are being delivered directly to recipient. I do not use a smart host so no virtual server.

Is there anywhere I can look to increase hop count apart from IIS on sbs 2003 r2

Thanks again.
