MS Vista and Office 2003 slow to open word and excel documents
We have 3, new Lenovo 3000 laptops, each one of them takes at least 40secs to open word & excel docs from our network. OS is Vista sp1 - Office version 2003 R2. Software updates are all done. Most solutions point to either the printer, unused mapped network drives or the anti-virus. I've checked all these options and still we are having a problem. I've also tried copying files to the c:\ drive but this makes no difference. Its beginning to drive me insane. Any help would be very much appreciated.

OK, spec should be ok then....
What version of VirusScan are you running ?
Also, what version of ePO ? and the agent ?
The latest patch is Patch 5 for VSE 8.5i

Its running McAfee VSE 8.5.0i with the Scan Engine version being 5200, and is update to with DAT information. We haven't yet installed ePO.
I've also tried removing all the printers except the Microsoft XPS Document, and unfortunately this didn't make any difference either.

Hi Si
That does seem to have made a big difference, but there is still a slight lag. Some of the documents are old and were created in Office 2000, so I have a feeling it has something to do with that too. However your suggestion has made a big difference, so thank you for all your help, much appreciated.

Hiya
Not a problem at all.......I'm still looking at your issue to see if I can think of anything.
One question, is the Vista Firewall on and have you enabled Network Discovery ?
I've seen those cause problems as well

What spec is the laptop ? i.e. How much RAM is sitting in these ?
Don't forget Vista is a hungry beast and needs at least 2GB of RAM
