DCDIAG errors

Hi,

Per a requirment from a client, I re-registered Domain controller SRV records from the AD integrated zone, DomainA.org, to a Novell DNS zone with the same name which will serve as the primary dns server.  I've also pointed the Preferred DNS of the DC to the Novell DNS server.  After that I run DCDIAG and notice errors on the KnowsRoleHolders section...see below for output.  I've also run other commands to troubleshoot, but I've made no head way.  When I change back to previous config -- point Preferred DNS to itself -- the problems go away.   See the below output from various tools.  I appreciate any feedback.  Thanks.


Now I'm receiving an assortment of errors running DCDIAG (which are listed below).  I've done some troubleshooting, but can not find a cause for the errors.  Please see the output for the various tools I've used to troubleshoot.  

Anyone have any thoughts?

On a windows machine in tcpip properties in the lan connection the DNS server should always be itself and secondary should be another internal DNS machine.
If you want your other Novell machines to do external lookups use a forwarder in DNS on your windows machine and point it to the Novell.

The client is currently making the same DNS changes twice -- once on the Novell DNS server and the other on the Windows AD integrated server.  

The client wants to have the Novell DNS server hold the master zone (DomainA.org), and the windows DNS servers will be converted to Secondary DNS servers.  If I change the preferred DNS on the DC back to itself, then how will DNS update -- given that it's a secondary?

Also when I run:

DCDIAG /test:DNS -- I get passing results...my main issue is resolving the binding via LDAP and RPC to FSMO role holders problem -- as indicated in the DCDIAG output.

replication uses DNS and if the first DNS is not itself you run into the issues you presented.
This is of course with active directory integrated zones which you probably currently have.
You can make a secondary DNS zone in windows replicate with yoiur novell setup.  Thats beyond my knowledge to get them to play nice together but why dont you use windows DNS.  DNS is stored in AD making it much more secure...

Unfortunately the client wants the Novell DNS server as the primary.  I just verified all the SRV records were registered by the DC when I pointed the perferred DNS to the Novell DNS server.  That tells me the sides are talking nicely.  

To provide more information:

When I manually force replication by right-clicking the connection object for the other DC (MS02) to the problematic one (MS01) using Sites and services.  I get an error stating:

The following error occurred during an attempt to contact the domain controller MS02:

 RPC server is unavailable.

AD depends on DNS they are tightly integrated and because you are chanhing the preferred DNS server to another IP is whats causing the issue in dcdiag.

Unfortunately thats all the help I can offer - I dont know how to configure AD to work with Novell.

Thanks for the help.  

This issue with the DC not binding to the other was resolved after I registered the other DCs SRV records in the Novell DNS server.
