I have just experienced my first disaster recovery for Exchange 2003.  I had a "dirty shutdown" problem and fixted it with eseutil /p then a /d on the priv1.edb and the pub1.edb.  Fortunately everything worked out but I did learn some things.  I am using acronis True Image Enterprise Server 9.1 and it was backing everything up on a file level basis.  I now know that this is not the way to go.  I dont want to spend a lot of money on a backup program, is the acronis program suitable?

True Image Echo Enterprise Server knows to backup exchange. It might be just that you need to setup the backup job for exchange servers.

You could check the User Guide for more info on how to setup an Exchange Backup and Recovery:
http://us1.download.acronis.com/pdf/TrueImageEnterpriseServerEcho_ug.en.pdf

You should take care that Acronis Recovery for MS Exchange Console is installed on the local computer and that
Acronis Recovery for MS Exchange Agent is installed on the remote computer (exchange) or the exchange features will show as disabled in the Acronis console.

The product description could be found at the following link:

In the product description page (second link) the name without Echo is used (e.g. in the features list). I assume is the same product.
