Java Error on Oracle 10.2.0.2

Can anyone tell me what this error could be?  How to troubleshoot.  I am a dba, not a developer and this has me baffled.

installed the db seprately on a seperate networked box... will get rid of the need for a loopback adapter

your app is prolly using connection pooling... so when the app is trying to checkout a connection from the pool which is already timed out etc .. it throws that error....

We have DHCP.  Should the LOOPBACK ADAPTER BE ENABLED OR DISABLED?

Or what would be a method to troubleshoot.

Here is some of our trys thus far.
disabled the loopback adapter, updated listener.ora
-         ran  Report 9
o        this previously had a socket exception
o        NO ERROR
-         ran Basis Amortization Income Progression - still get socket error:

So one report ran and one did not

mmm if  u were using DBCP  and apache ...i would suggest looking at
http://commons.apache.org/dbcp/configuration.html

and the parametrs like testOnBorrow and testOnReturn

which if set true test the connection everytime the borrow form the pool etc and if the connection is not active no more.. the get another one etc...

Why would one report run and one not run.  Are there settings in DHCP that I could change.  Should I use or not use Loopback Adapater?

i dont see the reason of using a loopback adopter unless ure installing oracle on your own machine and developing on it as well... loopback adapters are outdated... if u remotely connect(network) to db there is no need for a loopback adapter.. or ofc if ure installing on a dhcp machine... which u are... mmm

The application and the db are on the same machine.  I believe that is why the vendor is using a loopback adapter.  This vendor has asked for my help as the application dba as they can not solve the issue and it is holding up the next build of the application.

I recommended that they disbable the adapter and that failed.  I recommended they enable it and make sure the IP address of the server, not the server name, was in the listener.ora.  That failed.  I am at a loss.

Was a recommendation I gave them too.   they said had to keep on same due to hardware availabiltiy.

Could have them test app to another db not on same box and see if replicate error?

yeh that sounds like a plan.. even if they dont have another box for the db.. im sure they can put the app on another blade
