We are running Exchange 2007 SP1 and have a problem removing an "orphaned" mailbox. We (meaning I) deleted the user account associated with it. Later when 'we' tried to remove the mailbox I received the following error and the mailbox willnot go away.

Action 'Remove' could not be performed on object 'Leave Calendar'.
Leave Calendar
Failed
Error:
The operation could not be performed because object 'DOMAIN.NAME/Exchange/Shared Mailboxes/Leave Calendar' could not be found on domain controller 'DC1.DOMAIN.NAME'.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to remove a mailbox when the associated account no longer exists?

Thanks,

There is probably a quicker way, but I know this works.

1. Create a new temp user account WITHOUT a mailbox.
2. Right Click the Orphaned Mailbox and choose Reconnect (to the temp account).

You may have to mess with the permissions, but you should be able to delete it at that point.

Thanks for the assistance. The only thing that could have been better is if grahamsmyth would have mentioned that there is an item named "Disconnected Mailboxes" under "Recipient Configuration where I should have gone within Exchange Mgmt Console to list out all the disconnected mailboxes to use the solution mentioned. It threw me for a couple seconds, but I figured out where I should have been at after there was no such option when I right-clicked the mailbox under the "mailbox" section. Thanks again.  :)
