I have the following error in my log:

MaxClients setting: 1024

Logs showing MaxClients exceeded (100 lines max):
[Tue Jun 24 01:54:22 2008] [error] server reached MaxClients setting, consider r
aising the MaxClients setting

It seems 1024 doesn't work?
How can I increase MaxClients? Thanks

Because in most packages there is pre compiled  max clients limits.
You should think not about 1024 could not be reached, but why 255 not enough. In most cases this some problems with hardware (memory, CPU limits, hardware malfunction) scripts problems.
If you have hardly loaded http server you could use front/back end technology or something else  (may be web site spread along more servers).
