Sound is very low on ASRock Wolfdale 1333-D667 motherboard

Hi there,

I bought a new PC from a store where they assemble and sell computers.  The sound from the speakers are really low.  I can hardly hear anything.  Also, If I remove the speakers I cannot hear anything from the onboard speakers.  How can I correct it.  I have the audio driver installed.

Are you using amplified speakers?   Computer sound cards are NOT amplifiers --> they require amplified speakers.   If you have amplified speakers, and they're turned on (and powered) and you're still not getting suitable sound levels, then you may have a defective sound card (or defective speakers).

Hi thanks.  I don't get any sound from the on-board speakers.  When I connect my speaker sound comes but really low.

There are no "on-board speakers" (just a piezo-electric actuator to provide the "beep" codes from the BIOS --> NOT to provide any output from the sound chip).

Are your speakers powered?  (Plugged in to a power source)

Windows XP prof edition
Go to Control Panel - Sounds and Audio Devices

Click on the Audio tab; then on the Advanced button under Sound playback.   What is selected for the "Speaker setup" ??

RealTek HD Audio output.
Change it to Desktop Stereo Speakers
Did you click the Advanced button ??   The "RealTek HD Audio output" is probably just the default device (which is fine) ==> but I said to click the Advanced button and see what is shown for the speaker setup.   THAT should be "Desktop Stereo Speakers"

Well, the only selectable option there was RealTek Audio output.  I went Advanced-> and selected Desktop Speakers.  still no improvement.  I tried this before too.
Which plug are your speakers plugged in to?

The middle one in the back of comp.

One other possibility:  Open the mixer control (double-click the volume icon in the notification area); and be sure ALL of the volume sliders are turned up ... not just the Master volume.  Also, be sure nothing's muted (the Mute checkbox is not checked for any of the inputs).

Thanks all. It was the speakers.  It was working fine, but for some reason it started this problem and it coincided with me buying this new PC.  I tried it in another PC and same problem. Thanks for the suggestions.
