ASP.NET and SQL - get info from two tables with no association

I have two tables: Inventory and Inventory_Subs
Inventory contains part_num, list_price, our_price, and other details.
Inventory_Subs contains part_num, sub_part_num, sub_mfg

I need to search the Inventory_Subs table for certain sub_part numbers, get the associated part_num.  From there I need to get all the info in Inventory for part_num.

At this time there are no relationships between the two tables.  Inventory will only have 1 part_num, but Inventory_Subs with almost certainly have multiple.

How can I get this data into my asp.net app?  Should I create a relationship and use a join?  Stored Proc?  Please keep in mind that I am NOT a SQL expert!!!!!!  I have never done more than simple select, update and such.

As always, thanks for your help.
