Firefox won't start on Windows XP machine
One of our users has a problem with Firefox whereby it won't start. If you try to run Firefox, there's no activity from Windows - no hour-glass, no error message, nothing.
I've tried reinstalling version 2, which didn't do anything. So I removed Firefox, reinstalled version 2 and tried again, but still nothing.
The PC has been rebooted.
Any ideas what else it could be? Thanks in advance.

I too got that problem. I thought that Firefox got stuck and did reinstalled it twice. Later i found that Firefox does download mcafee siteadviser first time when you run firefox. I think Firefox did started and is downloading and installing siteadviser. So wait for time when you run for first time. I think It won't rum untill it downloads and installs siteadviser.

DReade83, is Firebug uptodate for version 3.0 yet? Also if you are trying to get it from add-ons from Mozilla, you should be OK, but if you are trying to get it from Firebug page, it's servers may not be up.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1843 seems to work for me.

Dodgy... it's worked for me at home too but doesn't seem to work on this chap's PC. I've download the XPI on to the desktop and tried installing from there but get the same error.
mohd_haq,
Where did you get your Firefox from? Mcafee Site Advisor should not be installed by Firefox. It never has been on my systems. Unless you mean the database it checks against for suspected phishing or forgeries.

You may have to make sure the Cache is enabled, also other security software can disrupt it, so read the page.

ya it happened twice. i downloaded it from firefox site. may be that i imported my settings from my internet explorer, it may have downloaded siteadvisor upon first use. But what ever may the case it happened twice and so i thought it might be the cause.

Eventually resolved by installing to a new folder as suggested, and deleting several entries from my local profile. Thanks! :-)
First of all remove firefox from windows (if it is installed previously), delete all cookies and temporary internet files from IE (6 or 7), then download latest version from www.firefox.com, install it.
It should work, but if it is not working press cntr+alt+del on the desktop to open Task Manager. Click on Processes Tab and check that there is only one firefox.exe running under Image Name. If there are more than one, click any one of them and press End Process button.
I hope this will help.

Firefox has software for windows, MAC OS X and Linux.
Download the latest version of Firefox (3.0) and try again.
