I need to create a new user login, and give user access to the database (2005 version).

> Security, Logins, . . created MikeS

> MyDatabase, Security, Users . . Here is has:

User Name:       ____________
    Login Name:  ____________  . . .

Is the Login Name the same as the the User Name? What goes there?

Then how do I "give user access to the database"?

The instructions say:
Make sure the Permitted Roles are
"public", "db_accessadmin", "db_securityadmin", "db_dlladmin", "db_datareader", "db_datawriter"

Thanks

Yes, the username is usually the same as the loginname, but it doesn't have to be.  The login allows you into the server, the user allows you into a specific db.

Once you've create the login into the database, you need to assign the user to the specified database roles.

>> assign the user to the specified database roles.
Where do I do that?

In the "Owned Schemas"  box or "Role Members" box
on the   > MyDatabase, Security, Users screen ?
