Apple 2GB RAM?

Most of the Apples I'm considering are only 2GB RAM... such as the Airbook and the MacMini. In fact, if I want a computer with 4GB or more, I have to shell out $3000+ to just have the option.

So... does Apple do better with 2GB RAM than Microsoft does? I haven't owned a computer with less than 4GB RAM in a long time. I really don't want to go backwards.

Also... I need to do development work in Windows... and was going to do it with Virtual Machines... which means 2GB won't be enough.

Yep, OSX's memory management is typically much better than PC's. 2GB is sufficient, most of the time, as long as you don't leave multiple apps open simultaneously (such as Photoshop + Illustrator + After Effects).

I would recommend 3-4 GB if you plan to run a virtual machine in Parallels. That said, the speed is still pretty decent, even with 2GB of RAM.

In addition, don't purchase RAM upgrades directly from Apple, go with a third-party memory vendor like Cruicial and you'll save a bundle:

Good luck. :)

Thanks for the info... this is what I'm looking for. I typically buy memory from newegg.com which has always been good to me.

But... the problem is that most Mac's can't expand past 2GB... only the Mac Pro and MacBook Pro.

Can you put 4GB in a MacMini?
