Unable to connect to IP based printer, other mac users can as can pc but not htis macintosh
I have a Macintosh pc with Panther 10.3 that was able to print earlier in the day but now is not.
The printer I am trying to print to is on the network, it shares a small workgroup switch with a pc, reagrdless of that other mac's can pritn to it as can other pc's.
The printer is a HP Laserjet 4000n, I am using ip based printing for this printer.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Try to find if it hasn't change the ip address, sometimes when there are problems with network printers when they have power loss. they automaticly switch to dhcp mode.

Even though other mac and pc's can print to it? Or do you mean the mac?
first check whether you can ping the printer ip address in LAN, if not go to the printer console and check for any changes on the ip settings

I can ping it froma windows computer.
Recently a new switch was put in place.
The user setup a windows pc, a macintosh and a pritner with an IP all on a small linksys 5 port switch, this was before the switch was installed. Now the Pc and HP printer are plugged into the small switch that is plugged into the wall. The Mac is plugged into its own port in the wall, not sure if this matters.

I notice on the front of the linksys the cable connecting hte switch to the wall jack and the cable going to the mac both have the packet collision light on the others are fine.
Would an inexpensive router solve this?
Even when I plug the mac directly into the wall it can get online but cant see the printer that everyone else on the lan can.

IN YOUR CASE, I THINK THERE IS NO NEED TO GET AN EXPENSIVE ROUTER FOR THIS ISSUE AND ALSO SOMETIMES SOME SWITCH GETS BLOCKED IN A SUCH WAY THAT WITH THE ENDPOINT DEVICE CONNECTED TO IT THERE IS NO CONNECTIVITY. TRY TO RESTART YOUR SWITCH. AND PLEASE CAN U TELL THE MODEL OF THE SWITCH?

The switch for our network is a cisco catalyst.
The switch used to connect the printer, Macintosh and PC in the wall jack is a Linksys 5 port workgroup 10/100 switch.
I can ping the printer from teh macintosh but whenever I go to print a test page it says pritning then printing stopped, whenever I try to start printing again it stops.

Been using the same driver, I just reposted this in Operating systems/ OS X.
I have tried all I know this is insane. I can ping the printer, get mail and hit www but cant print, I installed a new driver for the mac last night.
I will post here what the problem was if I discover.
