After years of developing a very comprehensive Access database, we wished to host the .mdb file at a web host so that some other online capabilities could be developed and so that several people could use the database. I'm talking only, say, 3 or 4 people needing to open the .mdb file. The online activity would be web based collection of info to append to an .mdb table.
This seemed a LOT simpler and cheaper than migrating the database to SQL server. The web host assured us that we could open and run the file from the web. In fact, they can open the file using Access fine. But. . we can't open it. Apparently there are MS security issues which make opengin a .mdb file that is on another server problematic. We can easily FTP the .mdb file both up and down to their servers. As long as the file is on the local PC, the Access opens fine. But so far we've been unable to successfully open it from the host severs.
After researching the web and this site, it is apparently a security issues prompted by SP2.
Has anyone seen this problem and been able to overcoming it???
