Problems getting CD Drive to work on custom built desktop
I just finished building my pc. I installed windows with no problem. The problem starts when I insert a cd into the cd drive. Everything is fine for a few seconds and it will read the disc and show the icon in the "MY COMPUTER" window. But every time I access the cd and you hear it start to spin up the computer will reboot itself. Then it will continue to reboot everytime it reads the cd before loading the O/S. This happens with ever disc I use and with multiple drives. I checked the inter temp and it is running at 40 degrees. Which doesn't seem hot at all.. So what else could it be? A power supply issue? A problem with the installation of windows? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

It could be a Mobo port issue, try plugging the CD rom in a different IDE port. (remember to change the Master/Slave/Cable Select pin accordingly)
Hehe, well that was a boneheaded suggestion. You won't be able to run the boot CD if the CD drive won't work. Try the USB or floppy bootable images from here:

Also try re-seating the RAM and swapping it with a working machine if possible.

Start with the simple stuff first. Ensure cables are seated properly. Then try a different IDE/SATA cable and a different molex/SATA power connector.
what cd drive(s) did you try? sata, or ide?
try other ports, and cables
did you install all the drivers for your motheboard ?
