I'm trying to create a shell script calls a another script 5 times and store the PID in an array. Then kill each process ID.  Run the the script I get a message ./process.sh[33]: While: not found.  I get this message when i tries to run both While loops.
#!/bin/ksh
COUNTER=0

While [ $COUNTER -ne 5 ]
do
./simple_script.sh &&
procARRAY[COUNT]=$$
(( COUNTER=COUNTER++ ))

done

COUNTER=5
sleep 1

While [ $COUNTER -gt 5 ]
do
kill -9 ${procARRAY[COUNTER]}
echo "process is terminating process ?!procARRAY[$COUNT]"
(( COUNTER=COUNTER++ ))
done
echo "All processes have terminated"

It's spelled "while", not "While"

Unix is case sensitive.

Additionally, your second loop where you kill the processes will never run as you set COUNTER to 5 and the loop will only be true if COUNTER > 5

A much easier way to write your script is:
#!/bin/ksh
for i in 1 2 3 4 5
do
  ./simple_script.sh &&
  sleep 1
done

for i in 5 4 3 2 1
do
  kill %$i
done

I'm confused by the answer you accepted.

It is neither ksh syntax, nor addresses your problem.

ozo's suggestion solves your syntax error, while my suggestion fixes both the syntax error and logic errors.
