Slow Printing

Dear Experts,

I have a Laserjet 1160. It is very slow to print.

Takes about 60 secs to start printing when printed to from desktops on the network. Also it pauses between sheets for about 30seconds.

I looked through printers and faxes and checked all settings but can not seem to see anything relating to these settings.

Thank you greatly for your time!

Cheers,

Jason

there are a couple of things you can try :
stop / restart the spooler service
uninstall the printer and software, then reinstall
check for the latest driver and upgrade

also, you can install the printer on another PC, to check if the problem comes from the printer or not !
It may just be that what you are attempting to print is (in Page Description Language terms) quite complex, and the relatively slow chip in the printer cannot process the print stream (to convert it to a dot image) fast enough.

Does the same thing happen if you try to print (say) a multipage text file with only small amounts of text on each page?

Hi,

Yea it always seems slow. Even small amounts of text on multiple pages. It still is slow and still had the pause between printing pages!

Hi Guys,

i really need your help on this one!

I stop and restarted the print spooling service. No good.

I un-indtalled the printer completely, restarted. Then installed the printer drivers that HP said i should. No good.

I got my laptop and installed the printer on and it then worked fine. But back on my desktop slow printing again. What can i do?

Cheers,

Jason

Hi Guys,

Thank you again for taking the time out to help me with this.

I have tryed to finding anything different between the two, desktop(print slow + pause's between pages) & the laptop(printing fine).

I have not been able to find anything different, all settings are the same. Slighty different programs installed but nothing that should have implications that i am experiencing!

Thank you for trying to help!

Cheers,

Jason

i suppose you do not have errors in device manager?
also running a disk scan for errors (chkdsk) may help
PCL should be faster than the postscript driver, so try that and see how it works for you.  Check to see if there is a driver update from HP too. Lastly, check the print queue to see how big these files are that are coming across.  Are you having these delays printing from pc's or macs or both?  How are these printers setup on the workstations?  Using tcp/ip for printing directly to printer? to a print server?

Hi,

The printer is connect via usb. orginally hp gav me the post script driver to load on. This seemed to make the printer "go silly". Like printing three pages when I only wanted it to print one.

Then i decided to remove the drive by deleting the printer in Printer & Faxes. Then i loaded on the PCL5 driver. This was ok but slow!

I noticed something weird in the print queue. I printed off a 2 page document that had "test" written on both pages. I noticed that the size of this went up to about 12mb.

Next time i did it it was arouind 600kb. The time after that about 12mb. Which is way larger than it should be!

Hope this helps as i need it!

Jason

No errors in Device Manager either guys! The large delay is have printing is from PC's. It takes approximately 60 seconds to start printing after i hit file, print. Then another sixty seconds between each sheet.

On the laptop i tryed it  was instant. So it must be something to do with the inital drivers i installed from HP. courrput something. I have a feeling even when i am reinstalling the printer Windows is using the old drivers. Just a hunch!

Yeah,  I would download the driver again from HP and see how it works for you.

Hi guys,

Downloaded the driver again. But no luck. Any suggestions?

Did you try the generic print driver off that site too?  Lets try that if you didn't already.

Thank you greatly for helping me out with this. It truly is appriciated. I noticed that i did not delete a registry entry and that was causing my problem. Used the Kyocera utility and it is now fine!

Thank you again all for helping me out with this!
