Symantec Antivirus Upgrade Options?

We have multiple clients who have runs Symantec Antivirus Corportate Edition or SAV on their network for years and now as it is time to renew their licenses, we cannot just install another year of the program we like, we are being forced to upgrade to Endpoint Protection.  We have installed it at one client in a Windows 2003 server with XP workstations environment and had all kinds of problems, network access was blocked, updates would not run, the console could not see the machines, etc.  After several days and several support calls to Symantec it seems to be working ok, but we are not real confident in it.  Does anyone know of any way to just renew the previous Symantec products or is upgrading to SEP the only available route?  If so has anyone had better luck with it in a Windows environment?  We are hesitant to install it again without knowing if the product has problems and if so we would need to go another direction.  I wish we could just purchase another year of SAV like we always have as that program has been very easy to maintain and monitor.  Any suggestions are appreciated.  thanks.

There was a question I participated in a few weeks ago when something similar was brought up concerning licensing of Symantec products.  Another expert was counseling the asker to think about switching to another product since he would now be forced to move to SEP.   I was concerned since I am on 10.x, but still have some client machines that I've never gotten around to upgrading to 10.x yet and I had no intention right now of moving to SEP. I called and spoke to someone in their Technical sales area and was told that even though my next renewal would be for SEP. I did not have to upgrade my machines and could continue to use 10.x.  And Symantec would be continuing to support 10.X at least until sometime next year.

I"m sorry that I can't advise you on how to roll back what you did, but if you do go back, it appears that you really can continue to run your current version without any legal or technical issues.

That sounds good if we can do that I would rather.  The thing is we if we go to renew 10.x from their website, like we have done in years past, all it does it point us towards SEP, it does not show an option to renew the one we have and in their SAV 10.2 info it shows that it is going expire mid-August and I assume stop updating the definitions then unless we enter a new license key, which we can't seem to find how to get without upgrading.  Do you have a link to that other question or know of the place we can look to try and get a license renewal without going to SEP?  That would be great.

Thanks I will call them, I agree with you with SAVCE it keeps updating like you said.  The problem is one client has SAV 10.2 that is on a one year license with an expiration date and when we go to renew it it points us to SEP only.  I will call them and see what they say, hopefully they haven't stopped letting us use a product that people seemed to like and worked well.

I just renewed mine and even through my VAR got a year for SEP 11.  However, as I said I was able to use that S/N to generate a license key for an older version of SAV for Exchange and it took it just fine.

Thanks, Good News I just called them and they said to renew SAV from the server by clicking renew, then it will make us pay for SEP licenses and at that point we can call their licensing center 800 721 3934 and they will let us downgrade to 10.2 and give us a license key to renew the one they have without installing anything new.  Thanks for your help, hoepfully they get Endpoint working right or come out with a new Antivirus only like Savce...
