Problem copying database

Afternoon, I am trying to copy a database to the same server and simply rename it.  I am trying to create a testing enviornment.  My credentials are not working with the wizard so that not an option.  I created a new database and imported to the newly created db but when i update db using a web app it updates the originating db not the newly created (testing db).  I've updated all refrences to the previous db.  So im not sure what I need to update to update the testing db and not production db or a better way of copying the production db.
