An ultrium 1 is a 100/200 drive - dont think those are the right tapes....

An ultrium 2 is 200/400

ASKER

Its the information store, and the job rate is normally 400mb/min.

Sry, the tapes are 100/200 as stated Randy_Bojangles.
Ok

The classic question : what have you changed?

Any patches to BE or Windows (maybe that will have upset the device drivers)?

New batch of tapes?

Anything at all that may give us a pointer
We upgraded from BE 9 I believe.  All the licenses for agents except for exchange got put in and the backup ran fine.  Then the exchange agent license was added.  Now if I run a  full, it runs for days (4-5) and I have to cancel it.  So I created a job with just the exchange data and it still takes forever then errors out.  I notice that the BEremote agent for windows service is usually stopped.  I have rebooted the server too.
BEX 12 is available. Are you going for the newest version of BEX?
yes, we did update to 12.
Upgrading to BE12 has been a bit problematic in some places

Did you do an in-place upgrade or remove the old version and then clean install?
I inherited this abouat a week after the old tech did the install, so I cound'nt answer that , sry
In that case then make it your own issue and not an inherited one so you know exactly where you stand:

Remove the Backup Exec and re-install from scratch so you know how the install has proceeded - you'll then want to do a LiveUpdate to get the latest service pack / patches
here are some of the errors i receive, it tells me;

The Exchange Store service is not responding. Backup set canceled

The media server was unable to connect to the Remote Agent on machine [server].
The media server will use the local agent to try to complete the operation.
Remote Agent not detected on \\[server].
this is from Symantec;
