One Exchange mailbox can't receive external mail, but can receive internal mail

The server is running Server 2003 Enterprise Service Pack 2, with Exchange 2003 SP 2. Currently all e-mail seems to be working except for one mailbox which can only receive internal e-mails, not external. I checked the message tracking center when I sent from my gmail to the account in question and it looks like everything is normal. I checked her Outlook and it is working. I even logged in through Outlook Web and it does the same thing. There are no rules created. At this point, not sure what to do.

You mean to say that Message Tracking showed that the External Mail was delivered to the Users Mailbox? In that case I would assume it to be a client side issue 100%.

well the last two entries on the tracker says:
SMTP: Message Delivered Locally to FLast@ourdomain.com  (F meaning first initial, Last is last name)
SMTP Store Driver: Message Delivered Locally to Store to FLast@ourdomain.com
I don't remember if I've seen that last entry before.
But I do have 2 questions:
1. If a user's Windows login is Firstname_Lastname & the e-mail account is First initial Last name can that cause problems?
2. If it's a client side issue, how do I correct it? I've already deleted the exchange account locally and recreated and still same problem. If the issue is client related, would that issue also appear in the Outlook Web?
the windows login and e-mail account shouldnt give any problem at all. At my previous company we used as windows login firstletterlastname and as e-mail address first initial.lastname@... So that should all be fine.

What u can check is the user properties in Active Directory and check the e-mail tabs in there and compare them with another user to see if there are any differences. If also that is all good u could try to remove the local and network profile but with this action some other settings could also be lost so it really should be a last resort :-) but in most cases removing a profile can often solve it (at least in my experience).
Great your Mesasge Track shows it was delivered to the Mailbox.
Try these:
  • Check from OWA
  • Create the User Profile on some other PC and then try to send the user a new external mail.
  • Search for the mail in his Malbox with the external email ID [what if it got moved ;-)]
