A little more information:<br />

All but 4 of my SAN attached servers are running Windows 2000/2003 Advanced or Enterprise server. The remaining are running VMWare ESX 3.0. <br />
<br />
the servers are a mix of Exchange and SQL, with some general purpose file/Print and application servers. None are particurlarly high I/O<br />
<br />
<br />
My SAN is a HP EVA5000 0C6D which has been upgraded to 7 disk shelves and 4 x loop switch kits.<br />
I also have a HP MSL6000 tape library connected to this fibre fabric via 2 x HP NSR E1200-160 storage routers.<br />
<br />
I cant really think of any other relevant information!<br />

I'm in the process of moving from my old fibre fabric (2 x Compaq Storageworks 2/16EL) to 2 x New Storageworks 32/4B switches.<br />
I've already created identical Zones and Aliases on the new switches.<br />
<br />
Since all my servers are multipathed, I was thinking that I can simply pull the first of the old switches out and repatch to the new switch. Test the new switch and then repeat for the second switch.<br />
I plan to shut down all heavy I/O servers beforehand (Exchange and SQL) to minimise and path disruption problems.<br />

does this sound feasible to you folks?<br />

Migration to New SAN Fibre switches - Best Practice

Computer data storage, often called storage or memory, is a technology consisting of computer components and recording media used to retain digital data. In addition to local storage devices like CD and DVD readers, hard drives and flash drives, solid state drives can hold enormous amounts of data in a very small device. Cloud services and other new forms of remote storage also add to the capacity of devices and their ability to access more data without building additional data storage into a device.

VMware, a software company founded in 1998,  was one of the first commercially successful companies to offer x86 virtualization. The storage company EMC purchased VMware in 1994. Dell Technologies acquired EMC in 2016. VMware’s parent company is now Dell Technologies.

VMware has many software products that run on desktops, Microsoft Windows, Linux, and macOS, which allows the virtualizing of the x86 architecture.  Its enterprise software hypervisor for servers, VMware vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi), is a bare-metal hypervisor that runs directly on the server hardware and does not require an additional underlying operating system.

Windows Server 2003 was based on Windows XP and was released in four editions: Web, Standard, Enterprise and Datacenter. It also had derivative versions for clusters, storage and Microsoft’s Small Business Server. Important upgrades included integrating Internet Information Services (IIS), improvements to Active Directory (AD) and Group Policy (GP), and the migration to Automated System Recovery (ASR).
