Leave the iTunes application alone.<br />

All you need to do us replace the iTunes folder inside your Music folder in your Home folder with the iTunes folder you backed up. &nbsp;This should contain the iTunes Library file which includes your iTunes library index. &nbsp;It is this file that tells iTunes where all the music is stored.

I have tried this and the library name keeps reverting to the wrong library.<br />
If I could get this backed up library to work then I could simply point the itunes music at the external hdd.<br />

any ideas on how to remove the default library?

Okay I did this but I get the error that this library cannot be used it is from an older verison of itunes. Anyway to roll this back?

I recently backed up my machine so I could reinstall Leopard. I backed up my entire HDD, but all of my itunes/ music fiels reside on an external. What is the best course of action to restore my playlists and library, I see a itunes backup under applications on TM that is 102mb, can I uninstall itunes then copy itunes off of my TM backup since it use to refference my external hdd.

I backed up my G5 using time machine and am tryign to restore my itunes playlists and library.
