I've taken a look at these Some before and some now.<br />

I'm trying to build a function that can detect this on any server. The problems that I'm running into are that not all of the server variables exist on all servers.<br />

For instance on my local installation (Appache Server) $_SERVER['HTTPS'] does not exist<br />
On my machine $_SERVER['SERVER_ADDR'] reports the IP address only, while PHP on an IIS box this variable is not set.<br />

can I count on $_SERVER['SERVER_PORT'] being 443 on all secure servers? Or can this change as well?<br />

$_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'] does not contain https on any of the servers I have access to and $_SERVER['SCRIPT_URI'] is not set on any of them. <br />

_SERVER[&quot;SCRIPT_NAME&quot;] starts at the server root, so that's not an option.<br />
