I have a Cisco 851 that I would like to use as a transparent firewall. &nbsp;I have been working with Cisco on setting this up, but they don't seem to know how.<br />

I want a set up that filters packets on a network, but does not behave as a router. &nbsp;This way I can place a device behind it and filter traffic, but not need to use a different IP than the client side of the network. &nbsp;The device would be more like a bridge than a router. &nbsp;<br />

Has anyone done this before? &nbsp;Can it be done with a Cisco 851? &nbsp;Any example configurations?

Hardware-based firewalls provide more sophisticated protection for inbound and outbound traffic than the simple Windows software firewall or the basic NAT firewalls found in routers. These devices implement techniques such as stateful packet inspection, deep packet inspection, and content filtering; and may include built-in antivirus and anti-malware protection.
