Weird program issues - Word 2007 and Adobe Reader Version 9

We have a client running a Toshiba satellite pro notebook connecting to an SBS2003 server and we have some weird issues. If we open a word document from the companyweb folder word hangs and usually freezes the notebook. If we open word first then open the document from the companyweb folder it opens fine. If we try to open adobe files we get the message 'there was an error opening this document. file already exists'. The notebook is patched up to SP3 and adobe to version 9 - server is fully patched too. Any ideas??

Cheers Simon

leehewson,

Hello, how you are doing?

Check this link as a starting point:
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProblemsStartingWord.htm

See this link:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/210565
From the above, try /a first and then /r (which are explained near the lower portion of this page). The stopping of Add-ins (/a) could help to rule out an issue with Acrobat and the /r will re-register Word in the windows directory.

Also, see this (particularly, the last two postings, if the ones above don't help):
http://help.wugnet.com/office/Word-2007-hangs-opening-file-ftopict1104657.html

Finally, is there mapped drives, "newly" changed drives (or "un-mapped" drives) and have any templates been changed recently, new names, new locations, etc.

Hope this helps,
Kevin
