That almost looks to simple! &nbsp;This is all new to me, so please bear with my questions.<br />

1. What does the /e mean? &nbsp;Does it only copy the changes/new files or does it copy everything? &nbsp;I would like something that sets a bit and then only copies what is needed.<br />
<br />
2. How exactly do I do this? &nbsp;In other words, do I simply type this into notepad, name it &quot;ongoingbackup.bat&quot;, and then place the file somewhere? &nbsp;Now that I have the code, I have no idea how to implement it. &nbsp;I wasn't kidding when I said I am a beginner with the batch files :)

And what about reporting so I can check that it is working? &nbsp;My file server has about 30-40GB of active data that this batch will be used to protect. &nbsp;Out of this, 2-4 GB changes on a daily basis. &nbsp;I want to back up the 30-40 once on the disk, then have the daily backups be incrementals that backup the 2-4 GB. &nbsp;Does this make sense?<br />

But will /e copy all 40 GB every 12 hours? &nbsp;Or does it automatically skip the 38GB of files that have not changed? &nbsp;Will it also copy all of the date time stamps correctly and any other information like security, ownership?

Yes, I should have stated I will be running this on a Windows 2003 SBS server. &nbsp;So I will want to use it as a scheduled task.<br />

sirbounty, want about the file folders? &nbsp;Will they have the correct time stamp with /COPY:DAT?<br />

Also, in terms of Security, what does it mean if it is and is not copied? &nbsp;Without security, does that mean that anyone who had my RD1000 disk could put it in a drive on any computer and read it? &nbsp;Similarly, if I copy with security and my server is destroyed by fire, would I have a hard time retrieving the files on a different server?<br />

After these two questions are answered I will close this thread. &nbsp;I only wish I could give you 500 points each! &nbsp;I may post a follow-on about scheduling. &nbsp;Sorry I am slow to reply, I threw out my back and cannot sit for extended periods.

Yes, the (T) will copy timestamps for folders.<br />
Security has a few advantages/disadvantages..<wbr />.<br />
If you're moving data from one folder to another on the same server, you might want to keep permissions, so you'd copy security to allow the users to be able to access the data in the new location. &nbsp;However, if you were moving marketing data from the HR folder to the marketing folder (where it belonged in the first place, right?), then you'd want to avoid copying security. &nbsp;You'd want it to inherit the container folder (marketing) so those folks could access their data, but the others could not.<br />
Now when you're talking about moving any data from a domain environment to a standalone/isolated disk, security is really irrlevant. &nbsp;If you were to copy it and check permissions you'd see something indicating that there were references to a previous security structure that was no longer available and thus invalid. &nbsp;If you were to copy the data 'back' to the server at some point, as in say a restore procedure, you would probably still want it to simply inherit the container folder as the ACL may have changed since the backup was made...<br />
