Exchange 2003 System Management Tools (ESM) on 64 bit OS

Hi All

I've been reading arround and fully accept that Exchange Sever 2003 can NOT be installed on Windows Server 2003 64 bit, however, can anyone tell me if it's possible to install Exchange System Management Tools on a 64bit OS (Intel EMT hardware). This OS has support for 32bit applications, so why can't the management tools only be installed? Is there any way that I can trick the exchange installer into thinking that it's a 32bit OS (managed to do this with Exchange 2000 ESM by running in 2000 compatibility mode)?

I hope that someone has some good news as I have the requirement of trying to keep this install of ESM autonomous as it is required for Quest Spotlight on Exchange and I do not want the monitoring server reliant on any other system to function correctly.

Many thanks in advance.

If memory serves, I was unable to install even the exchange system manager on an Opteron 64-bit server.

Here's better: Exchange Server 2003 does not run on 64-bit editions of Windows Server 2003.  Exchange Server 2003 management tools for remote administration can be installed on a computer running supported versions of Windows such as Windows Server 2003, or Windows Server 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4).  Exchange Server 2003 management tools cannot be installed on a computer running Windows Vista.

I read this as meaning 64-bit editions can't use the tools either.

Does any one know how the installer figures out that the OS is 64 bit? I managed to trick some drivers that would not install on XP into thinking that the OS was Windows 2000 by changing a registry key before install, then switching back afterwards. The hardware worked perfectly fine dispite working with drivers that we apparently unsupported on this OS.
