Outlook Anywhere enable fails with Active Directory Error

Hello,

I am running windows server 2003 x64 with Exchange 2007 SP1.

When I try to enable Outlook anywhere I get the following error:

ERROR CODE:
Enable-OutlookAnywhere : The Active Directory object for virtual directory 'IIS
://mail.XXX.com/W3SVC/1/ROOT/Rpc' on 'MAIL' could not be c
reated. This might be because the object already exists in Active Directory. Remove the object from Active Directory, then re-create it.

I have rpc over http installed (and removed and re-installed it also). I tried to delete the rpc directory in IIS management - also did not help.

I receive the same error through shell or console, but can not find any relevant information online that discusses this specific issue.

Any help or direction would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Bill

It's possible that this is a permissions issue. How are the permissions set on the virtual directory "IIS
://mail.XXX.com/W3SVC/1/ROOT/Rpc" ? You could use ADSI edit and look for the object to see if it already exists...but I doubt it does.  Let me know what you find.

Hope this helps,
Marc

ASKER

Administrators - Full
Authenticated Users - R&E, List, Read
Creator Owner - None (won't change either)
Server Operators - M, R&E, List, R, W
System  - Full

Oddly, when logged in as Administrator, the Exchange console shows Outlook anywhere is disabled, however when logging in as a different user in the administrator's group it shows enabled. (both me and my assistant)

I don't understand why it would show differently.

Should there be permissions on that directory for Iwam_mail?

Thanks,

Bill

I had this same issue. It happened to me when I did not do the updates for Exchange right after the install. Maybe try to run all the Exchange updates. If not remove Exchange and reinstall.
