Someone else may have had your router and set it up with the 172.16.x.x network. &nbsp;There should be a reset button to restore to factory.

My modem is a 2wire HomePortal 1000s. &nbsp;I've had it for about 6 years and I have had a wireless router connected to it before (and that router handed out the ip addresses in the 192.168.0.101, etc.). &nbsp;It stopped working about a week ago so I bought this new router that I'm configuring now.

Yes the new one may have been used by someone else. &nbsp;The 172.16.x.x network is a private address.

under &quot;connection specific DNS suffix&quot; it says &quot;gateway.2wire.net&quot; if that helps

could you try doing a reset again, but this time keep it disconnected from the modem, then check back and see if it goes back to using a 192.168.x.x

I disconnected from my modem, did a reset. Tried to obtain a ip address when just connected to the router, but got nothing. &nbsp;Connected the router back up to the modem and still get the same addresses as I was getting before. &nbsp;The dsl modem is definitely handing out the addresses because when I enter the ip address listed as my gateway in a web browser I get the console for the modem. &nbsp;I guess I can live with it; it just seems weird. &nbsp;

I just installed a D-Link wbr-2310 router. &nbsp;My internet connection is working fine, but I don't think it is set up correctly. &nbsp;I cannot log into the router with the default 192.168.0.1 address. &nbsp;Instead, it is receiving an IP address from my dsl modem. &nbsp;where my desktop computer is 172.16.1.35, the router is 172.16.1.34 and a wireless device I have configured comes in as 172.16.1.36. &nbsp;I can log into my router when I put 172.16.1.34, but I have a feeling this is not right. &nbsp;Shouldn't the router be distributing IP addresses in the format 192.168.0.101 and so on? &nbsp;
