Print functionality works fine but I cannot scan to my PC using HP Solution Center.

I recently swapped my DLink DI-624 wireless router with a Linksys WRVS4400N wireless router with VPN and now I cannot scan to my PC using the HP Solution Center software.   I can ping the printer, I can print to the printer and I can even access the printers web tool via an internet browser but when I try to scan the HP Solution Center sofware just hangs for a min or so and then presents an error message "Please ensure your device is connected and working properly and try again".   Today I tried reinstalling the old router and again I can ping the printer, I can print to the printer and I can even access the printers web tool via an internet browser but when I try to open the HP Solution Center sofware I get the following error message: "No HP devices have been detected. HP Solution Center will close now."   My laptop is wireless to the Linksys router, the printer is ethernet via ethernet extender (device that plugs into an electrical outlet by the printer and one by the router - then uses the homes elecrical wires to for ethernet conectivity between the extenders) Any help with this issue will be greatly appreciated!

PC: IBM T60p Laptop running Vista Ultimate
Router: Linksys WRVS4400N
Printer: HP 2840 All-In-One
Scan Software: HP Solution Center - Full Version v3.1

I always seem to have trouble with HP software... have you tried uninstalling and re-installing that with the new router in place?

I tried uninstalling the HP Solution Center software and reinstalling but I'm still having the same problem. During the install I made sure my anti virus and firewall was turned off. When I type "netstat" at a cmd prompt this is what I see:

TCP 127.0.0.1:5226 Established
TCP 127.0.0.1:49181 Established
NOTE that I do not see TCP 127.0.0.1:5225 as per the expert comment from nobus.
I can open the HP toolbox if I click on all programs and select "Start/All Programs/HP" and then select the HP/Color LaserJet 2820,2830,2840/HP LaserJet Toolbox. (URL: http://127.0.0.1:5225/Toolbox4.0/controller/deviceMultiLineStatusDevice/192.168.0.101/DeviceContent.jsp?device=192.168.0.101&cat=0&pos=0)
I cannot open the HP toolbox if I try to open it from the HP Solution Center software by clicking on "Utilities" from withing the HP Solution Center software. (URL: http://127.0.0.1:5225/Toolbox4.0/controller/deviceMultiLineStatusDevice/Ä/DeviceContent.jsp?device=Ä&cat=0&pos=0&menu=0)
I get the following error message when trying to open the toolbox from within the HP Solution Center software:
Hewlett-Packard Company
Toolbox About Toolbox Text only page An error occurred
The device you are attempting to access is not available

When I try to scan a document via the HP Solution Center I receive the following error message:
"An error occurred communicating with the scanning device. Please ensure that the scanning device is connected properly and try again."
Again:
I can successfully ping 192.168.0.101 (printer IP address)
I can successfully open the printer web page via the above IP in my web browser.
I can successfully print to the printer.
I just cannot scan....

Additionally when I try to initiate a scan to PC from the printer itself, I get an error that says "Cannot connect".
Could this be a scan driver issue?   Or perhaps an issue with Vista blocking the scanner from seeing my PC???

After countless hours of research I've determined that the scan to PC functionality (Running Vista) of the HP2840 just will not work when netoworked.  Every post that I read had the exact same problem that I'm having.  My fix was to connect via USB cable and uninstall/reinstall the HP Solution Center software.  All functions now work properly.  I cant believe HP cant fix the network scanning issue!

if you scannner is not a NETWORK scanner, you need extra soft to make it run over the network - all scanners have this problem

The scanner is in fact a network scanner...  It worked perfectly over the network until I switched from XP pro to Vista.   Then strangly enough it actually worked on Vista with some minor tweaks to the scan (it would hang mid scan if the scanner was set to preveiw each page as the multi page scan was fed through the docment feeder).   Most recently I installed a new wireless router because I needed to establish a secure VPN connection to my database for an employee, from that point on the scan functionality wouldnt work over the network.   HP tech support was useless.  Linksys tech support was similar.  Ulitmately, it was my research reading MANY dozens of posts from users wit the exact same problem (HP2840 unable to scan to PC over the network running VIsta) that led me to abandon trying to scan over the network.   Currently my PC is the only one attached so the USB option is acceptable for now.  I just wish I had known HP was having such an issue with Vista on the 2840 prior to (a.) upgrading my system to Vista, or (b.) buying the HP2840.  I cant tell you how many hours have been wasted trying to get the scan to PC funcionality to work over the network (again, everything worked over the network EXCEPT the scan to PC functionality).

having read that, may I suggest one last thing?  if you're running a local VPN client, can you disable it and test?  or was that one of your first troubleshots?
sorry to hear of your troubles... I sure know what you mean about the many hours wasted...

Actually, the problem was with my locally attached machine... I havent even attempted to try to print to my network printer from a client machine attaching to my network via VPN.   But to answer your question, no.. I havent becasue I'm just now finally ready to test the VPN connection for the first time.
