It depends on the availability you need for your system. Otherwise, it's better to have a cold or hot backup script for you database using the tar command.

Actually my dedicated server is running a Mysql 5.0.51 with two disk 146 GB SAS 15K with the following scheme:<br />

Disk 1: OS<br />
Disk2: A partition with the mysql service and databases<br />
<br />
I wish secure my box doing a RAID 1, but i´m afraid of performance of this setup (perhaps will be much more slow than this setup).<br />

My server have around 150-200 querys per second at this moment.<br />
