Will daily power outages damage my hardware? Why buy an UPC, as PC is used for email/web?
Hi,
I've owned a Tripplite UPC, but got rid of it, as it would re-configure incorrectly, when I performed other hardware/software updates, etc.
APC is a better brand, but I wonder if I need one anyway.
This summer we experience a power outage (briefly) almost daily.
Does this outage, causing a shutdown of running or standby PC cause potential or eventual hardware damage?
I have not lost any .docs during such outages, as I seldom am working on critical processes.
Therefore, is there really any need for me to spend maybe $60. for a quality home office UPC?

In my experience unplanned power outages are a major cause of problems ... especially hardware issues. I simply consider a UPS a mandatory accessory ... and also only buy UPS units that include automatic voltage regulation (so the UPS doesn't switch in/out extensively during brownout conditions).
The best relatively-low-cost units with AVR I've found are the Belkins => I tend to buy their more expensive units, but these are excellent low-cost choices:

I bought the APC 500VA 300W model;
Newegg "open box" for 1/2 price @$ 45.00.
Shipped already!
Seems to have the features you suggested Lot's of "auto" features,
re. outages & re-start.
I noticed our local Tech. store with a returning Tech.,
who was carrying 4 empty APC device boxes.
Seems a business needed protection pronto,
but at high retail & "installed" at $95. per hr. service call.

thanks; I'll buy one now.
PC had another outage & this time the boot from Standby went badly & PC wouldn't even shut down. I had to power down from power button, not OS.
