There aren't a massive number of choices here. Lets see, you can:<br />

1. Split off DCs from production<br />
<br />
a. Add a new DC to the Forest (per domain) if you have more than one domain).<br />
b. Power it off and move it to the test environment without demoting<br />
c. Manually clean it out of the live environment (metadata cleanup)<br />
d. Manually clean up the test environment (remove the remainder of the live DCs)<br />
<br />
2. Restore a System State from production to test (hardware must be pretty much identical - network card information).<br />
<br />
3. Restore an image using something like Acronis TrueImage with Universal Restore (<a href="http://www.acronis.co.uk/" rel="ugc">http://www.acronis.co.uk/</a>)<br />
<br />
Which you end up using tends to depends very much on the resources available. The first is the most flexible, but some organisations don't like performing that kind of operation.<br />

Each of the above is a bit vague, do you have any thoughts on which you might prefer?<br />
