One user gets the following message when sending e-mail to this particular company: The following message to <Rosella.Peterman@uma.aecom.com> was undeliverable.

Hello,

I have one user that is unable to send mail to a particular company. I have sent a test email from my account and it is fine. I had her try typing the email address instead of replying to the email. same mail delivery failure notification comes back. Her co workers are able to send emails to the same address just fine.

>>> "Mail Delivery System" <MAILER-DAEMON@meson.strathcona.ab.ca> 6/11/2008 9:40:17 AM >>>
The following message to <Rosella.Peterman@uma.aecom.com> was undeliverable.
The reason for the problem:
5.1.0 - Unknown address error 550-'Requested action not taken: NUL characters are not allowed.'

Thanks for any help in advance!

[1] Can she reply to a message sent by that user?
[2] Do you see anything in the GWIA when the end user attempts to send that email out?

Is it on a Netware server?  You can simply browse the log and see what's happening when the user is trying to send a message.  The log might give a bit more insight on what's happening to the email itself.

You want to look at the GWIA console, and not the folder where it's installed.

Are you talking about the GWIA that is in ConsoleOne?

No, what kind of server are you running the GWIA on?  Windows or Netware?

That's consoleone...The GroupWise Internet Agent will be installed somewhere on a server, like Netware and Windows 2003, for example.  Do you have any of those servers at your office?

Ok, then walk over to it and open up the screen that says "GroupWise Internet Agent"

I looked at the logs for the agent and couldn't find much. We do have an IronPort Mail Flow applience that all of our mail flows through which usually does a good job of reporting problems. I have attached another screen shot for your view pleasure.

It's a weird one certainly, the error message suggests that there is a space in the name, but the screenshots from your IronPort appliance suggest this isn't the case.

Try and send a mail from the effected account to an external address you control; yahoo, gmail, whatever, and see if you get the same issue.

If you get the same issue, then you'll know there is something wrong with the user sending external mail.  I have seen this before when a space was present in a users e-mail address.

Open  the Users account in Console One, check the 'E-Mail address' field on the 'general' tab for any spaces.
Also check the 'Groupwise/Internet Addressing' tab, for any overrides that might be in place, and any spaces there.
The final place I can think to check is the 'Groupwise/Gateway Aliases' for any entries that might have spaces.

Within Internet message handling services (MHS), a message transfer agent or mail transfer agent (MTA) or mail relay is software that transfers electronic mail messages from one computer to another using a client–server application architecture. A MTA implements both the client (sending) and server (receiving) portions of the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP). The terms mail server, mail exchanger, and MX host may also refer to a computer performing the MTA function. The Domain Name System (DNS) associates a mail server to a domain with mail exchanger (MX) resource records containing the domain name of a host providing MTA services.
