Fixing slow startup after installing WinXP SP3? (Using Hamachi to access server)

Hello experts,

I have installed WinXP SP3 on about 5 machines in the last month or so.  I've noticed that since then the machines can take up to 20 minutes to boot.  They hang on Applying Computer Settings mostly.

There have been quite a few posts about checking DNS settings.  Makes sense.  However in these cases I have the Hamachi Software VPN running with the Hosts file configured to use the Hamachi IPs to access the server.  So:

I believe the machines are hanging because they are trying to access the Domain Controller using the Hamachi IP address listed in the Hosts file. But Hamachi doesn't load until the machine is fully up.  Strangely this wasn't a problem until SP3 was installed though.

So what I need is some sort of Regedit or something that will tell the machine not wait so long for the domain controller or a way to have the machine use a different IP on startup than it does after the machine is up.  This is a stumper.

Thanks,
-John

Thanks for the quick response.  Question though.  Is this setting on the workstation or the server side.  I guess better question is where do I find this setting?

Thanks,
-John
no problem this is a group policy that gets applied so you will need to ask your network admins to check for it, if thats you then you need to find this within the group policy editor.

Firstly are you aware of greoup policy and how to edit it so i know how to pitch teh response, if your confident, google always wait for network gpo and you willfind its location if not come back to me and ill let you know where it is
Right.  My bad.  I was thinking of the Local System Policies not GPO.  I've tooled around in there enough to be comfortable.
One more question though.  What are the implications of turning this setting off?
Thanks,
-John
Actually, I just looked at my GPO and it wasn't configured, which then defaults to "Don't wait"  Any other thoughts?

how about using a log on file to copy over a new hosts file and then a log off script to put the old one in place without hamachi
