I am a newbie, so please keep that in mind as you read this thread. After downloading windows updates last night for my sbs 2003 R2 server, I am having SQLAgent$SHAREPOINT and SQLAgent$WSUS service problems. Both services report that they start and then stop when I try to start them. I am getting 324 application event errors indicating that the services are not allowed to run. Additionally, the SQL Server service manager indicates that the SQL server agent is stopped and it cannot be started.
The updates that I downloaded are:
kb948110 - Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine update - installation failed - Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070643: Security Update for Windows Server 2003 (KB948110). This update is still available according to windows update.
kb951746 - DNS security issue update - this was installed and then uninstalled trying to correct my problem. This update is still available according to windows update.
kb951748 - DNS security issue update - this was installed and then uninstalled trying to correct my problem. This update is still available according to windows update.
kb948745 - Wins vulnerability update - currently installed
kb949014 - AD security update - currently installed
kb950759 - Cumulative security update for IE6 - currently installed
kb950760 - Security update for ActiveX kill bits - currently installed
kb950762 - Security update for Pragmatic General Multicast - currently installed
kb951698 - Security update for DirectX - currently installed
It is so frustrating when windows updated breaks an otherwise problem free server. I have spent hours trying to figure this out with no luck. I would appreciate any and all help.
Thanks,
Brad
Another point of clarification if you don't mind. I'll wager that the SQLAgent$WSUS service that has the same problem that I had with the SQLAgent$SHAREPOINT service could be fixed also by deleting it's GUID key. However I notice that this service is set to manual instead of automatic. Should this service be set to automatic?
Thank you very much,
Brad
