Netwok Printer

I just plugged this printer into the network but do not see it. When I print the cofig page, the IP addr reads "Configuring". How do I install this printer on the lan? Thanks in advance.

In order to see the printer you are going to need the IP address. If it says configuring for a long time maybe you don't have a DHCP server? Even if you do you should probably assign it a static IP address through it's Menu. Once you have the IP you can go to your Server or workstation and go Add Printer | Local Printer... | Create a new port - Standard TCP/IP Port. That should do it.

Go to your DHCP server to see what IP was assigned to your printer. Also make a note of its MAC address.
Make a reservation for it in DHCP so it always retains the same IP address.

Give it an A Name Record in your DNS server.

Go to your Print Server, Add New Printer:
Add Local Printer > New Port > Select Standard TCP/IP port > Enter its name that you assigned in DNS, or enter its IP that you assigned in DHCP. (Example: prHP2015n in DNS, or 192.168.1.xx in DHCP)...

You will be prompted to select a driver when you are going through this wizard. Select a built in Driver from the list provided, or if you have a driver downloaded from HP select Have Disk.

I would love to assign it an ip addr but this printer has no interface to do so. If I could see it I would confi g it. We do have a dhcp server but it still has no addr.

Found this on HP's site. Apparently this is not like their more advanced printers where you can configure the network settings directly. Hope this helps...

Here is how you do it. First youconnect it to your network and then from one of the pcs load the cdwhich sets up the printer. During this setup the printer will be givenan ip address. After setting up you can load it on the other pcs acouple of ways. One you can use the cd again or what I do is downloadthe latest driver for the printer from hp and then use the add printerfeature of win2K or XP and then choose local printer and on the nextpage use the create port and then tcp/ip then next, put in the addressand then at the makers page use the browse feature to go to thedirectory with the driver and finish it up. You can now print to theprinter with all the other pcs off as you are communicating directlywith it with the tcp/ip address.

A printer is a peripheral which makes a persistent human readable representation of graphics or text on paper or similar physical media. Traditional printers are being used more for special purposes, like printing photographs or artwork, and are no longer a must-have peripheral; 3D printing has become an area of intense interest, allowing the creation of physical objects. An image scanner is a device that optically scans images, printed text, handwriting, or an object, and converts it to a digital image. Hand-held scanners, where the device is moved by hand, have evolved from text scanning "wands" to 3D scanners used for industrial design, reverse engineering, test and measurement, orthotics, gaming and other applications.
