What are your recovery time and recovery point objectives? That is, how quickly do you need to get a DR server up and running and how much data can you afford to lose when invoking DR? Don't say &quot;instantly&quot; and &quot;none&quot; because it is possible to design systems to achieve that but it is not in general possible to retrofit such a design.<br />

So, if you RTO is hours and your RPO is a day, then a tape backup sent to remote site is a solution. If you need better than that then there are other possibilities. Do you already have suitable DR hardware? Is the application running on a database that has replication facilities? Do you have a SAN across the two sites that can you can use LVM to mirror disks across?

Thanks for the reply. I need the ability the have both my production and DR server mirror images of each other at all time. I need to have the ability to point users to the DR server and have then up and running again in under an hour. This is why i was looking at Symantec's Volume Replicator but it only works with Aix 5.2 and above. This is they type of things that I need...

How far apart are the servers? Keeping a mirror image over up to 10km is business as usual (but not cheap), between 10-100km is unusual and expensive and &gt;100km is usually not practical. The cost of migrating to AIX 5.2 will be very small in comparison.

There are lots of cluster/replication options, but you should consider application requirements - for example if you can replay updates for yesterday overnight storage copying is sufficient.

Does anyone have any suggestion. Any I can't upgrade the server OS either at this time. I'm open to suggestion? Third party software, native Aix commands, Ghost ,...Please help
